President’s Corner
Welcome to winter! The weather is shaping up to be one of our best winters in memory. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable snowmobiling season! With great snow conditions, it seems we see more and more news coverage about snowmobile accidents and snowmobilers at bars. Please remember, drinking and driving never mix, regardless of what you are driving. Also, driving beyond your abilities and experience endangers you and everyone else on the trail. Common sense is the key thought here, folks!
We are still having some troubles securing permission for one section of the trail-from East of Hoover Road to West of Ward Road on the power lines in Sanborn, as this is Niagara Mohawk (NiMo) property. The Trail Committee is in contact with NiMo and working with them to secure permission to continue to use this trail. NiMo is requiring lots of paperwork, but have indicated they will likely approve our request. We are getting closer to approval, but have not received permission yet. Please note: This section of trail is not marked and it is considered ‘closed’ until we receive permission. Niagara County Sheriff’s Department has informed us they are currently in possession of a letter from NiMo that requests the Sheriff’s department arrest anyone found on their property for Criminal Trespass. This came about during our off-season-someone decided to do some target shooting practice on some very expensive measuring equipment NiMo had on the property. Again, please obey our signs and as always, Respect our landowners-this is their property, not ours. Check back on the website for trail updates-we will post changes ASAP!
Mike Mueller has been busy working on getting the new groomer ready-if you want to help or have suggestions, please e-mail Mike. If you note problems with the trail and/or signs, please contact Rodger Johnson. We have seen that several signs have been ridden down already and some fences have been knocked down, we are fixing these as we can, but with the weather, it’s hard to get out and fix them. Remember, all trail passages have to be at least 10 feet wide to accommodate the new groomer.
We are approved for trail funding this season from the New York State Snowmobile Trail Fund. Last spring, the Pendleton Club voted to cede their trail system to us. We are working with them for landowner contacts, marking, etc..
As of the November meeting, we now have more than 100 member families. This is entirely due to the efforts of our members and the top shelf events we hold! We would not be where we are today without the time and effort you put in to the club. Have a great season, enjoys the trails and stay safe!
President,
Shawnee Sno-Chiefs Snowmobile Club, Inc.
